Finnley Webber inspires wildlife conservation through interactive technology

High school student and aspiring wildlife conservationist Finnley Webber of Da Vinci Schools in Los Angeles is merging her love of nature with technology through an innovative educational app called WILDLIFE ID. Supported by a Hunter’s Fund grant, Finnley’s project aims to engage users of all ages in wildlife exploration and conservation awareness.

“Imagine an app that operates much like Pokémon Go,” Finnley explains, “but instead of chasing imaginary creatures, users seek out and ‘capture’ real-world animals.” Using photos and location-based interaction, WILDLIFE ID encourages players to venture outdoors, document wildlife sightings, and learn about the species they encounter.

Finnley’s lifelong passion for the environment drives her mission. “I believe wildlife conservation is about saving the whole planet—the balance, the dependence of everything needed for life to thrive,” she says.

With her grant, Finnley will collaborate with experts to develop and launch WILDLIFE ID on both iOS and Android, inspiring a new generation to protect the planet through exploration and learning.
