When Hurricane Beryl struck the island of Bequia, it devastated Hunter's Fund grant recipient Tavio Simmons' sea moss farm, washing away everything he and his team had built. "We were prepared for wind and rain but not the storm surge," Tavio shared. "On the morning of July 2nd, I went to the sea moss farm and it was gone."
Though the loss was profound, Tavio refused to give up. After regaining the courage to start again, he and his small team are rebuilding a stronger, more resilient farm with reinforced anchors and underwater frames designed to withstand future storms.
Even amid hardship, Tavio continues to embody the generosity that defines Hunter's Fund. When he learned about fellow grant recipient Melinda Robinson's hydroponic project, he immediately offered to mentor her, proving his commitment to helping others never wavered.
