Why Helen Miller Says Mentoring Is Worth It

Helen Miller

Helen Miller is a seasoned mentor. Her first priority is to build rapport and trust. She sees this relationship building as a critical step to keeping the lines of communication open and building the mentee's confidence to reach out when they need guidance.

Mentoring is different from one Grant Winner to the next. But for Helen, two very different app ideas had something in common: The Grant Winners behind them were ready to roll up their sleeves and follow through on the tasks ahead.

Helen describes her experiences mentoring Grant Winners as terrific and highly rewarding. Both winners displayed the kind of initiative that makes mentoring feel like a partnership. They were self-starters and had a considerable body of work at the time they received their grant. That meant conversations could move from getting started to planning the necessary moves forward.

In addition to her one-on-one mentoring work, Helen has attended two Hunter's Fund "Meet & Greet" calls with the Grant Winners and Hunter's Team. One element she highlighted was the call slide deck which all attendees are copied on and is a road map of important dates and Hunter's Fund processes for the Winner's grant year.

Helen would encourage anyone who is thinking about mentoring to take the plunge! The team at Hunter's Fund will be there with support to ensure your success
