Louisa Hygate creates musical audio books to support children’s wellbeing

Bristol-based musician and writer Louisa Hygate has been awarded a Hunter’s Fund grant to bring her creative vision, Storio, to life—an audio book series designed to promote positive mental health for children ages 8 to 12.

Each 20–30 minute episode blends mindfulness, gratitude, and emotional wellness through adapted fables and original stories. Louisa composes lyrical songs and original music for every tale, using melody and rhythm to help young listeners connect deeply with the lessons. “Storio’s goal is to build narratives around facing life’s challenges,” Louisa explains. “I want to use my skills to help prepare children for the journey ahead.”

Having taught music and practiced music therapy, Louisa has seen firsthand how sound and storytelling can nurture wellbeing. With her grant, she will purchase professional recording equipment and collaborate with voice actors and illustrators to produce the series.

Storio will fill a critical gap in mental health resources for young audiences—combining art, empathy, and education in a way that reflects the heart of Hunter’s Fund.
