Nicholas Barba develops a secure smart home platform with Smarta

Entrepreneur and Eagle Scout Nicholas Barba is redefining what it means to live in a connected home. As the founder of Smarta, a cutting-edge “smart home” app, Nicholas is creating a secure platform that simplifies and protects communication between landlords and tenants. The idea took shape while he was a student at Syracuse University, where he recognized a growing need for privacy within the expanding world of smart technology.

Using blockchain technology, Smarta ensures that users can enjoy the benefits of a connected home without compromising their personal data. “We are combating the standard that enjoying a connected and smart home requires the sacrifice of your personal privacy,” Nicholas explains.

After winning Syracuse’s Orange Tank competition, Nicholas and his team registered Smarta as a C-Corporation and began active development. With support from his Hunter’s Fund grant, the company is building its technical team and finalizing app development—paving the way for a full launch and a smarter, safer way to live connected.
