Norah Al-Azzam advances mental health care through innovative technology

Recent UC San Diego graduate Norah Al-Azzam is harnessing neuroscience and technology to improve mental health treatment worldwide. In response to the growing global mental health crisis, Norah co-founded NanoMood in 2020—an innovative startup developing a wearable device that continuously monitors mental health biomarkers in real time.

The device tracks key biological and physiological signals to help quantify mental states, providing patients and doctors with valuable insights for early intervention and lifestyle improvements. “Our goal is to revolutionize how mental health is monitored,” Norah says, “giving individuals and clinicians the tools they need to respond before crises occur.”

With support from her Hunter’s Fund grant, NanoMood will continue prototype development and conduct pilot studies in collaboration with UC San Diego Health and the VA.

Originally from San Diego, Norah’s passion for neuroscience and her entrepreneurial spirit embody the mission of Hunter’s Fund—empowering innovators who are creating technologies that truly make a difference.
