Paige Smith pursues music therapy to heal through sound
Paige Smith, a high school senior from Dayton, Idaho, has been immersed in music nearly her entire life. A versatile performer on piano, guitar, ukulele, banjo, and voice, she began lessons at age four and now shares her skills by teaching piano and ukulele. While she loves performing, Paige’s true passion lies in using music as a way to help others.
Her dream is to become a professional music therapist, a career that combines her musical talents with a desire to improve the lives of people facing physical or psychological challenges. She has already begun this journey by working with her school’s special education program, where she teaches ukulele to students with special needs.
With the support of her Hunter’s Fund grant, Paige will acquire professional recording equipment and software to aid in her therapy work. Inspired by research that shows music’s power to ease pain, lift spirits, and improve quality of life, Paige hopes to bring healing and comfort through music.
