Sophie Fazio uses film to elevate underrepresented voices

Brooklyn native Sophie Fazio is a director, writer, and producer dedicated to telling stories that matter. From her earliest film studies in high school, Sophie has been drawn to the power of cinema to explore complex emotions and give voice to those often left out of mainstream storytelling. Her work centers on uplifting LGBTQIA communities and people of color, both in front of and behind the camera.

“Through independent films, I learned that movies have the power to transcend boundaries and connect humanity,” Sophie says. “I believe it is my purpose in life to be a filmmaker and showcase the stories and talents of strong, extraordinary humans.”

With support from her Hunter’s Fund grant, Sophie is producing Wilde Flowers, a female-centered coming-of-age story that delves into family relationships, love, and identity. By blending artistry with empathy, Sophie continues to build a body of work that challenges norms, amplifies diverse perspectives, and celebrates the shared humanity in us all.
