Willow Collins creates an inclusive recording space for young artists

Grant recipient Willow Collins, together with partner Laura Beard, is working to transform the music landscape for young women and non-binary musicians in the U.K. Their vision is to open a recording studio dedicated to community service, mentorship, and music education—one that empowers underrepresented voices in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

“We want to create an environment that encourages young people to engage with music and technology and learn transferable skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives,” Willow explains. “Everybody should have access to a recording space that allows their art to express itself.”

The studio’s mission is to “send the elevator back down,” offering a welcoming, less intimidating space where future artists can grow and collaborate freely. With support from their Hunter’s Fund grant, Willow and Laura will purchase professional recording equipment, host workshops, and provide hands-on training to help the next generation of women and non-binary musicians thrive.
