Frank Marin develops innovative solution to remove space debris

Syracuse University student Frank Marin is reaching for the stars—literally. Originally from Burnt Hills, New York, Frank has been fascinated by aerospace engineering since childhood, inspired by NASA’s groundbreaking missions. Now, with support from a Hunter’s Fund grant, he is working to address one of modern space exploration’s most pressing challenges: space debris.

Frank’s research focuses on designing a prototype system capable of capturing and safely removing debris orbiting Earth. More than 750,000 pieces of space debris currently pose serious risks to satellites and future missions, and Frank believes his concept offers a more efficient, targeted solution than existing proposals.

Majoring in aerospace engineering and planning to pursue an MBA, Frank aims to combine technical expertise with business acumen to bring his innovation to life.

Through his grant, he will begin building and testing his prototype over the next year. His vision for a cleaner, safer orbit exemplifies Hunter’s Fund’s mission to empower young innovators shaping the future through science and creativity.
