A Fundraiser Students Actually Wanted to Stop For

A good campus fundraiser should make people curious.

At Iowa State, students found a way to do exactly that with a petting zoo event. It was simple, fun, and easy for students to understand right away. Friends stopped by. Classmates came over to see the animals. The event gave people a reason to pause, take a photo, donate, and learn more about Hunter’s Fund.

That is what makes a fundraiser like this work. It does not feel stiff or complicated. It feels like something students actually want to be part of.

A petting zoo may not be the first idea that comes to mind when planning a philanthropy event, but that is what made it stand out. It brought students together in a light, social way while still supporting a serious cause: ending distracted driving and helping more young people move their ideas forward.
Fraternities, sororities, clubs, teams, and other student groups can all take the same approach. Your event does not have to look exactly like Iowa State’s. It just needs to fit your campus.

Maybe that is a petting zoo. Maybe it is a car wash, pie event, restaurant night, or 5K. The best event is the one your group can get excited about and promote well.

When students show up, the message can spread.
