3 Dollar Challenge
Young people may care deeply about charitable causes but assume philanthropy belongs to people who can make large gifts.
Kate Adler and her twin brother Jack created 3 Dollar Challenge to show otherwise.
Their grassroots fundraising organization helps nonprofits connect with Gen Z through social media campaigns built around $3 micro-donations.
The amount is intentionally small. Instead of asking a few people for large gifts, the model makes participation easy and encourages young donors to invite others through their own social networks.
Kate and Jack received a Hunter Watson Entrepreneurship Award while Jack was a first-year student at Syracuse University.
Their idea recognizes that generosity can become a habit long before someone has significant money to give. A small contribution can also become something much larger when thousands of people participate.
