Melinda Robinson empowers young farmers through sustainable hydroponics
From the fertile hills of Penniston, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Melinda Robinson is leading a new generation of farmers toward a more sustainable future. A graduate of St. Vincent Community College and a Hunter’s Fund grant recipient, Melinda founded the SEEDS Program—Sustainable Education and Empowerment in Hydroponic Systems—to teach modern farming techniques that conserve water and improve food security.
“My journey in agriculture began early in life, rooted in the traditions of my community and fueled by a deep commitment to addressing the challenges faced by local farmers,” Melinda shares. “Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and close-knit farming communities of Penniston, I witnessed firsthand the impact of climate variability and the need for solutions.”
Through SEEDS, Melinda trains young farmers in hydroponic farming—growing crops using water instead of soil—helping communities like Vermont Valley thrive despite limited water resources. Her work embodies the Hunter’s Fund mission: empowering innovation that sustains both people and the planet.
